since football is just around the corner, i thought id throw this tidbit of advice out to newbies or anyone that plans on following some of the handicappers here at the RX.

first of all the Rx has alot of good handicappers (some have bigger egos than others) but thats besides the fact.

there is nothing wrong with following a handicappers selections, but you have to be disciplined, you cant just pick and choose between three or four cappers and jump back and forth, it just wont work, pick one and follow him to a tee.

also IMO, a capper that uses a unit system based on anything other than a single or double unit selection is going to lose you money in the long run....dont believe me then go ahead and try it........main reason is he has got his bankroll and youve got yours...

i would follow someone that gives out a selection ie. denver........ not denver 5 units, g.b. 3 units, dallas 10 units........and so on (thats just me though).

just remember its a long season, and every year i see people go busted the first few weeks of football (that sucks for both player and book actually) because they cant manage their bankrolls and always remember getting down at the right number will mean the difference between a + or - at the end of the day......... so good luck to all.

Good post. I always love when the units start doubling , tripling, or more when a player is down.

Thanks Dime. Very well put. The reality of posters going broke early sucks but we all have to learn. Mostly the hard way.

solid advice.

not many can size wagers correctly according to the value of the number.

I do think it's very important to include the size of the wager with the actual number. For a lot of people a -6.5 might be a little stronger than a -7.5 and a -2.5 would be stronger than a -3.5, and this comes into play for those that wager early in the week. And this may help some people take advantage of local lines.
